Developing a Nutrition Program
Integrating Nutrition into Practice
Integrating evidence-based nutrition into your practice begins with the first steps of discussing nutrition with your patients at the onset as a foundational part of care and guiding them to find useful resources to learn more like our Patients and Families and What is Nutritional Therapy sections. We recognize that it’s often not feasible for community gastroenterology practices to have full nutritional programs like academic centers. However, the list of training, educational and creative ideas opportunities below can advance the nutritional care in your practice.
Dietitians are essential to successful treatment with nutritional therapy
Enteral nutrition and therapeutic diets require much personal motivation and skills to navigate dietary changes to be successful. Knowledgeable dietitians can provide proper patient education and foster support and encouragement.
To enhance knowledge of these complex diets and their implementation, providers (physicians, dietitians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and social workers) may opt to travel for on-site training.
